Installation of gutters and roof drains makes primary roof drainage system. Gutters are usually installed on pitched roofs not surrounded by parapet walls. Roof drains, on the other hand, are usually installed on flat roof which is surrounded by parapet walls.

Secondary roof drainage

It is commonly known also as “overflow system” which ensures when the primary system gets plugged or overloaded, handling the rainwater and draining it away and providing proper protection. This system may be installed in the form of secondary roof drains or roof scuppers. The secondary system must be installed in a way to give a warning that there is something wrong with the primary draining system.
